U.S. M1 Helmet & Capac Liner Named To Major Herman F. Scholtz

U.S. M1 helmet, front seam and fixed bale. The helmet is fitted with a nice used M1 liner which is clearly makers marked Capac Manufacturing Co. The liner is also marked with Major rank.
This helmet is clearly named Major Scholtz and fitted with Majors rank. We recently recovered this helmet in Louisville; Kentucky with the handwritten note.
We managed to find the following provenance online;

Born in Louisville, Ky., on May 23, 1884. Engineer. University of Kentucky, 1905. Died, August 6, 1973.
He organized the International Engineering Company of New York in 1922 following service in World War I as a Captain in the 138th Engineers in France.

International Engineering has been the largest American company in Thailand and he served as Chairman of the board. He received a distinguished decoration from the King of Siam for his many contributions to that country. He was a close friend of the royal family.

At the beginning of World War II, he was caught in Bangkok by the invading Japanese and he and his wife spent a year in an internment camp. They were released and returned to the U. S. in August of 1942.
He served as a Major with the U. S. Army for the remainder of the war were he has was in charge of prisoner of war camps untill 1946.

On the helmet shell it is clearly visible that a Captains bar had been welded on the shell. This was later removed and welded. The Majors rank had then ben applied on the shell. This imo supports the above provenance. It should be noted that the chinstrap has another named applied to it; "Stoller". It was a common practice that equipment was reissued also to higher ranks and have come across this often in other groupings.

A very attractive U.S. M1 helmet named to a Major and with provenance.
