Extremely Rare British MK1 Fibre Rim "Royal Armoured Corps" Tank Helmet 1942 - Nice Used Condition
An extremely rare example of a British MK1 Tank Helmet. We have only so far four helmets come across before ,one of them is in the "Overlord" museum in Colleville sur Mer; Normandy.(see last two pictures)
This first model tank helmet (the helmet shell)was produced by the company BMB(Briggs Motor Bodies). The liner was produced "V.M.O" and dated 1942. Only 8000 helmets were produced and only very few surrived.
The helmet has the resemblance of the first model British Airborne Helmet that was also fitted with a fibre rim and issued in 1942. The liner of the helmet like later model tank helmets was fitted with a large brass screw in the top of the helmet. The black rubber lining is is in equal nice used condition and complete with its original cotton fastening strap. the helmet compromises a size 7 1/8.The helmet is fitted with original canvas chinstrap.
The helmet has been applied with its original probably periodic repainted Due to the limited production these helmets rarely come up for sale and this would be a rare oppurtunity to purchase one of the most rare pieces of British headgear. Due to its exceptional patinaIt is unknown whether these helmets were also used by the airborne units. cannot be upgraded.
