U.S. (Airborne)M-209-B Converter i.e. Mechanical Cipher Machine 1942 Dated & Carrying Case - Unussued Condition

A very rare and unique piece of U.S. (Airborne) signal equipment. The M-209 series was crucial for tactical communication for instance for Airborne troops. The M-209 is a portable hand-operated mechanical cipher machine. Codes generated by this machine were mainly used for encrypting tactical messages. Converters of this type were employed in Normandy amongst Airborne units. The key is configured through six adjustable cipher wheels fitted with movable lugs. Each character of the message is selected individually using the wheel on the left, and the resulting encoded letter is printed onto a narrow paper strip. This particular converter is in nice i.e. light used or unussued condition. Makers marked L.C. Smith & Corona Typewriters Inc. And 1942 dated. The converter is fitted with a original paper strip to feed the converter and and Signal Corps Message Book M-210.
The converter comes in its original carrying case marked M-209-B on the front. Fitted original carrier strap as well as shorter strap. All executed in OD shade canvas. A fantastic piece of U.S. (Airborne) Signal Equipment very hard to find these days, and hard to upgrade
We don't how the converter works but something it works and sometimes its stuk and idont turn round
