A very original British Army No. 18 Wireless Set
This man pack transmitter-receiver set was introduced into service during 1940 for short range communication in forward areas between Battalion HQ and Company HQ. It was designed to be portable and could be worn on a soldier's back using a harness and belt system and they saw widespread issue throughout the British Army for the duration of WW2.

This example is very original and complete. Whilst many offered onto the market today have missing or replacement reproduction parts, this example has survived in excellent original condition due to having been part of a museum collection for many decades. The metal case that houses the transmitter and receiver is in excellent condition and retains the vast majority of its service green coloured paint finish which would suggest that it is of mid-war manufacture The signals stores reference iof Z.A.3240 is also present to the top as is the original metal data plate which bears the title 'Wireless Set No. 18 MK' below which is the serial number.

All of the straps are also original as is the waistbelt which bears the maker's initials of 'MECo' which denotes the maker as Mills Equipment Company, below which is the signals stores reference number of Z.A.21524.
