U.S. Officers Service Dress Original Mounted To Eight Air Force Pilot with 1st Lieutenant rank. Mounted with 1st Lieutenant Rank insignia on the shoulderboard and Eight Air Force formation patch. The dress is mounted the Distinguished Unit Citation and ribbon for the Good Conduct Medal and Air Medal with two oak leafes clusters for additional awards. Fitted with a British made USAAF "Combat Pilot" Wing. The U.S. Eight Force was stationed in the U.K. from 1942 onwards and played a vital role in for instance Operation 'Argument' (also known as 'Big Week' ) and supported by RAF night bombing, on the German aircraft industry. On D-Day, over 2,300 sorties were flown by Eighth Air Force heavy bombers in Normandy and Cherbourg iaimed at neutralizing enemy coastal defenses and front-line troops.A full original mounted Service Dress of a historical important unit.
