British War Office Map, third and revised edition of 1943 (G.S. G.S. No. 2541) of "Middelburg". Middelburg the capital of Zeeland is located on the island of Walcheren. The Battle for the Walcheren Causeway played a significant role in the Battle of the Scheldt. The cause way was an import route to the port of Antwerp which is a deep-water inland port close to Germany. The battle of the Scheldt took place from 2 October untill 8 November 1944. The operation was led by the First Canadian Army, with Polish and British units attached. The battle of the Scheldt came at a cost of a lot of casualties. A very rare map in nice used condition.
